Juan Vidaurre is a virtuoso guitarist, prolific orchestral composer, singer & pianist from Caracas, Venezuela. His first exposure to music came about through his parents, both classical pianists, deeply influenced by composers Maurice Ravel, J.S Bach, Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy and Sergei Rachmaninoff. In 2015, Juan competed at the Jazz At Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Festival, where he first met Wynton Marsalis, and earned an outstanding soloist award. After attending Litchfield’s Jazz Festival on a full ride, he moved to New York City to study at The Juilliard School on an Irene Diamond Scholarship. He has worked as a sideman for Josh Lawrence, Nate Sparks, Evan Attwell Harris, Khondzi, and Omer Ashano. In 2019, he competed as one of twelve semifinalists at the prestigious Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Guitar Competition. Juan’s extensive experience as a band leader and/or sideman has taken him to renowned venues such as Smoke Jazz & Supper Club, The Blue Note, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Rockwood Music Hall, 55 Bar, Bimhuis & Le Chat Noir. He has also studied with many important musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Peter Bernstein, Stephen Scott, Aaron Goldberg, Marc Cary, Donald Vega, and Lage Lund.
